International Plein Air Painters'
World-Wide Paint Out
September 9, 10, 11, 2005

September 9 - Contoocook Village Dam

Doug was already on site with his beautiful painting 1/2 done when I arrived at about 9:40. Heather arrived just a few minutes after me. It was just the 3 of us today ... unless Byron got out there early and was gone before Doug arrived?

Doug was down in the shade on the ... it can only be called a flood plain! ... grassy area below the parking lot, right at the river's edge. Heather and I stayed up top on opposite sides of the fire lane just above the dam.

Beautiful day! Sunshine, cool breeze - temp about 74 - very few bugs ... just about perfect!

Doug had to leave us a little before noon, and I had to make a run up to Boscawen and left Heather (and my gear) there for about an hour, during which time a gentleman who lives up the street stopped by to chat with her. Heather and I packed up and headed for home at about 4PM.

Reminder: tomorrow's location that's officially listed with IPAP is Veteran's Memorial Park in Manchester ... all day, whatever time you can be there. Those with booths in Manchester's Art in the Park can paint from their booths, the rest of us will be nearby ... AND NOT SELLING ANYTHING! I'm gallery sitting at the MAA Gallery in the Carol Reims Center on Elm Street (a few blocks north of the park, directly across from Pappy's Pizza) and will set up my easel out front so that's an unofficial location (but still in Manchester) if anyone wants to join me there for awhile. I'll head down to the park when I'm done at the gallery (1 PM). Those of you with booths at Londonderry's Art on the Common can do the same ... set up and paint at your booth and extol the virtues of painting en plein air! Someone from the Londonderry contingent, please bring your camera and take photos so I can include them with the photos and report I'll be sending to IPAP in a few weeks.

See y'all tomorrow! AND Sunday - don't forget we're also painting at the Massabesic Audubon Center on Sunday and it's also our RECEPTION for our Purely Plein Air Exhibit there. Even if you're not exhibiting, you're still welcome to come paint and enjoy the
reception!

September 10 - Manchester, NH (MAA Gallery & Veterans' Memorial Park

I had to gallery sit at the MAA Gallery this morning, but brought my paints and pochade and set up outside to paint the bench and shrubs near the door. I don't think I'll finish this piece - it's not
particularly exciting ... but I PAINTED and attracted SOME attention (one guy, who just came to see what I was doing, said "Wow - that looks 3D!" and continued on his way without going in to the gallery!

After Gallery sitting I swung down to Veteran's Park and found Ann D happily painting near her booth at Art in the Park. Our newest member ... Michelle? ... I'm brain dead from standing in the sun! ... had a booth directly across from Ann's and she was painting too - although that sure doesn't look like the view in Manchester! LOL Ann B has already posted to say that she was at the Park painting earlier in the day ... sorry I missed you Ann and you're not in the photos from today. I did see a newspaper photographer wandering the park - I sure hope she wasn't looking for the plein air painters (yes, we had press releases sent to numerous publications several weeks ago).

I left Manchester and headed down to Londonderry where several of our members were participating in Art on the Common. Unfortunately, NONE of them were painting at their booths so I didn't take any pictures of them. Think we should make them each LOSE a dot from their nametags? Just kidding!

I DO hope there will be a lot more of us on site tomorrow at the Audubon Center. Remember, the paint-out is all day, our reception is from 1-4. Come paint, walk the grounds, enjoy some goodies - bring friends!

September 11 - Massabesic Audubon Center

Many thanks to all who turned out today, both for the Paint Out and the Reception. We had quite a turn out from members - 14, I think! - and even had guests coming through to visit the exhibit right up until the last minute! And our local art columnist/photographer from the Derry News popped in too!

I'm pretty sure I got photos of everyone - either painting or at the reception or both, but I know I missed getting photos of some WIPS (Joanne, Linda B, Anne W for sure - not sure if I missed others) - apologies to those I missed!

Photos from today are already uploaded to our yahoo!groups website, in the same folder as those from Friday and yesterday. To make sure you don't miss any, click the "Show All" link at the top of the page once you're inside the folder.

I still think the whole concept of the IPAP World-wide Paint-Out Weekend is one of the coolest things going ... just to think that artists all over the world were painting with their own little local
groups at the same time as us (on their local time, anyway)is just the neatest thing! Kind of a Peace & Unity through art ... Artists Without Borders ... Paintbrushes for Peace around the World ... etc ... and I'm proud that we could be part of it again this year.
Thank you all!

All of the photos I took this weekend will be send to IPAP (along with a brief report) for inclusion in their annual report on the event and some will appear on their website and other publications.

If anyone has additional photos to add - please send them to me!
Sharon
